Frequently Asked Questions
What happens on the day of the photo shoot?
We provide white studio backdrops and lighting for your photo day to enhance your costumes. Our photographers can work independently to organise groups or alongside one of your teachers as well as work to time schedules to keep things running smoothly.
I’m nervous; will I be shown what to do?
There’s nothing to be nervous about, we will guide you all the way through. If you are unsure how to pose, we will show you what to do, how to stand, how to position yourself and soon enough your inner dance will shine thru and the resulting images will be memorable to you and your family.
How long does it take to be photographed?
Dancers will get approximately 2 to 4 minutes each, as we have to stick to time schedules to keep things running smoothly. We thoroughly advise for you to practice your poses before the Photo shoot.
Do your photographers and Assistants have a Blue Card?
All our photographers and assistants are Blue Card equipped as well as trained in ethical standards for child photography practices. Our photographers have over 20 years experience working with children.
Can mum come along?
We prefer no parents watching, as the younger dancers get too distracted a little easier, and to keep up with the time schedule, but for any reason you wish to be there to support your young one(s), we don’t mind your help at all to capture that best smile.
What shall I bring & what shall I wear?
Your full Dress Costumes including the right head wear, legging, shoes and any props.
Should I wear make-up for my Photo shoot?
We advise you to put make-up on for your photo shoot, as you don’t want to be washed out in your photos, as the studio lights are bright. (Ask your Dance Teacher for more advice)
How do I get the secured password and link to view my photos?
Your dance teacher will receive an email from Julie Thomas Photography, with all the information, links and passwords, the Dance Teacher will distribute that same email to all parents.
What device should I use to view and purchase my photos?
SPECIAL ATTENTION:Please view photographs on a desktop computer or Laptop – NOT on your iPhone, Android Phone and iPad will not provide adequate performance for the Shopping/Photo Cart or enable you to see all functions on our website.
I have a question, who do I get advice from:
All Photo enquiries must go to Julie directly, please do not contact your Dance teacher. No orders will be sent to the Dance School.
Please email to firstname.lastname@example.org
I will reply back to your emails, text or phone calls ASAP, mainly after hours.
Attention: Enquiries or orders via text message or Facebook cannot be read or processed.
What do I do if I encounter any problems?
I can’t see my child/ren in the proofs? Please contact me via email or phone and I will try my very best to fix the problem as quickly as I can and notify you ASAP. Although, circumstances have occurred in previous years that your child may have not come up for an individual photo, and have missed out altogether. As this is a very busy time photographing all our dance students in such small limited time, we do our very best to photograph each child and ask them if they have had an individual photo taken, if the Group Photo was done first.
Are our photos edited?
Yes, all images are edited in Photoshop and colour corrected, the ones shown on the website ARE ONLY PROOFS! Once you have placed your order and payment is finalised, all images will be professionally edited, such as removal of black scuff marks on white backdrop, and any minor editing such as lipstick on teeth, bruises on arms/legs and removal of niko pen marks, paint and fake tattoo's on hands and shoulders.
How will I get my High Resolution photos?
Digital files - High Resolution Files is by far the cleverest and quickest way to purchase your images online, as they are your digital negatives and can be printed as many times and any size you like! Files are delivered through We Transfer- A Securely Shared, Sync and Collaborated Software!
We highly recommend that you back up your digital files in several locations such as multiple hard drives, or USB not just left on your email. Please remember to download your image/s within two weeks of receiving them via email, as they will expire, also check your Junk mail or Spam folder if you haven't received your files via your inbox.
What paper do you use for Prints?
A-la-carte Photographic Prints - Photographic prints are professionally developed using the highest of Kodak’s quality archival and longevity paper range, to ensure stunning quality and affordable prints.
When will I get my photos?
Please allow 7-10 working days for High Resolution sent via WE Transfer, and approximately 1.5-2.5 weeks for delivery on Prints & Collections. As I work full-time and do my Photography business after hours, I will try my very best to get these to you ASAP, depending on the workload I will receive.
